FREEDOM, DREAM, AND REALITY

Image
The 1800 opened a new chapter for the Haitians.  Toussaint Louverture as the Governor General of Haiti or Ayati, with one goal in mind, to conquer the whole land and declare total victory.  After capturing the North, part of Central,  and the West,  the battle was raging in the Grand South and East, where victory after victory was the driving force that captivated their spirit to continue the war.  For the Haitians, it was eminent to fight to their last breath because going back to slavery was not an option.      To completely capture the East, Toussaint Louverture had divided a regiment of 25,000 men in two units.  within less than a month, on January 28, 1801, the troops captured the East.   As the French continued to loose men and territories, throughout 1801, Napoleon Bonapart had decided to bring more men from Europe; except this time it would backfire.   As of January 1802,  about 6,000 Polish men were bro...

A LESSON FROM OUR PAST HISTORY

Image
I promised to expose Haiti's hidden jewel history not to recite it but, to make us aware of many exceptional events during the revolt.  As we look at  the depth and lenght of that revolution, we noticed the energy and persistence used by these warriors to reach their goal which was "Freedom"  One of the most intriguing acts was the extraordinary event between Major Maitland and Toussaint Louverture.  Imagine to militarily honor an opponent who killed your soldiers; on the other hand, Toussaint Louverture to voluntarly pardon all captured war prisoners and return them to their superior. These two gentlemen, although they were at war; they did not hate each other.  Instead, they respected and  acknowledged each other as human beings.   Although we call ourselves modern societies, we mercilessly murder our war prisoners; we curse those who have the courage to stand and fight against us.  The question is, are we civilized societies as we claim to...

The Hidden Jewel History

In my previous blog, I promised to expose the hidden gems to you. Today, I have a great pleasure to talk about, "Haiti's Revolution." We all know that Haitian Slaves revolted against the French; that is partially truth. For those who do not know; Haiti was occupied by three different nations at the same time, (British, French, and Spanish). In 1789, the slave population was close to about 500,000.  They were 30,000 free Black people.  I should not forget to mention that they were three groups of African descent: Those who were free, those who were enslaved, and those who run away to hide far in the mountains and later called the Maroons.  Half the 30,000 free African descent were Mulatto, (mixed race) and many were wealthy.    On August 21, 1791, the enslaved rebellion started in the plantations where the slaves were being tortured, mutilated, buried vertically up to their neck and honey was poured on their heads, so and so forth.  Imagine being bit b...

Such country invented the word, "FREEDOM," through its actions.  Yes, the country is Haiti.   BUCKLE YOUR SEAT BELTS, YOU ARE ABOUT TO LEARN HOW MANY COUNTRIES HAITI HAD EITHER HELPED OR LIBERATED FROM SLAVERY AND OCCUPATIONS.    HAITI HAD ALSO DONE SOMETHING THAT NO OTHER COUNTRY HAS BEEN ABLE TO DO.   THE HAITIAN SLAVES HAD FOUGHT THREE DIFFERENT OCCUPATIONS AT THE SAME TIME DURING A PERIOD OF 13 YEARS, (FROM 1791 THROUGH 1803).   DID YOU KNOW THAT THE HAITIANS FOUGHT TOGETHER WITH THE UNITED STATES AGAINST THE BRITISH IN 1779? Congressional House Record Volume 154, Number 23, [Pages H834-H837] Yes, in the Great...
